In a plot which is surrounded by buildings on 3 sides and only open towards the west, the facade treatment was the most important aspect of the design. From the very beginning, the intention was to introduce deep terraces on the west, serving as both balconies and garden spaces. This cantilevered terraces feature fluid shapes that break away from the monotony of surrounding rectangular forms.

We shortened floors on the upper third of the structure, which allowed us to utilize maximum allowable construction area by adding an extra penthouse unit at the top. Furthermore, the project addresses the environmental impact of a built form by giving back a significant portion of earth it occupied, in the form of integrated vegetation on every terrace.

Another particular challenge of the project was to terminate the continuing curved terraces on both sides. To resolve this, we introduced two parallel shading devices on each floor, merging the curves with the rigid rectangular mass. On top of that, darker tones were applied to window frames and adjacent walls to accentuate the terraces as continuing bands.

Designing a building that harmonizes with nature and prioritize environmental responsiveness was a rewarding experience. I am eagerly waiting for the construction to complete and witness the final output.
