Farmgate is the busiest node of Dhaka City with roads from five sides meeting in one junction. One of those is the green road. Despite being a one way road in most parts, the road remains jam packed 24/7. The goal of the project was to redesign a significant establishment to create a multipurpose space which would aid to reduce the traffic pressure, provide a casual breathing space for the pedestrians and the residential community around.
My first design approach was to free up the land by elevating existing primary functions (doctors chambers and tiles sanitary shops). this open space can house the vendors who used to occupy various points of the road. Being a shaded space and the presence of various vendors will attract passer by to rest and spend some time.
The rest of the building is divided in two parts housing the primary functions with a prayer space and a restaurant at the middle. Their is also a dedicated loading unloading bay and parking space to ensure no one has to occupy the road for this activity.
